Sailing in the Kingdom of Tonga

With approximately 170 islands, reefs dotted across the horizon yachts are a welcome and common sight throughout the islands whether passing through and enjoying and extended rest, or cruising the islands with one of the local sailing yacht operators. March to October seems to be the time of year yachtees choose to gather around Nuku'alofa and Vava'u.

Sailing vacations are catered for by Rainbow/Moorings yacht charters, and other operators, based at the Port-of-Refuge Harbour, Vava'u. Or if your interested in just taking a break from the trip, then dropping off at Nuku'alofa's Yacht and Motor Club provides a pleasant relaxing environment for meeting other visitors and locals.

Chartered fleets operated from Neiafu can last two days, two weeks or two months and boats are fully provisioned with all equipment as well as food for the length of the charter, and in some cases the charter may include a local Tongan Feast. Although, if you are taking out the two month cruise you may need to make a few stop overs on the islands for rations and a little visit to the rest of humanity.

The Moorings has international charter operations all over the world an now includes a dozen Beneteau yachts in its Tongan Fleet.

Rainbow Yacht Charters - New Zealand's internationally recognised charter company--hase set up a locally owned and operated company now associated with Moorings in Tonga as Moorings Rainbow, which offers both yachts and motor cruisers for charter.
