The Kingdom of Tonga
![]()
Tonga, has been recognised with an annual IGFA (International Game Fishing Association) tournament since 1992 out of Neiafu Harbour, Vava'u. With pacific waters feeding pelagic fish and the Tonga Trench being the second deepest in the Pacific, it is no wonder catches of 288kg (37kg line class); blue marlin 195kg (24kg line class) are not uncommon.
Vava'u, having the better facilities for game fishers, has at least three specialised game fishing operations. The "Kiwi Magic," Sport Fisher "Delray Charters," and "Target One" specialise in custom fishing expeditions, assisting with the local knowledge to help visitors with that 'big' catch. With fishing grounds just 20 minutes for berth, enjoy fighting Black, blue and striped marlin, sailfish, barracude and wahoo--as well as tuna and giant trevally.
