In Tongatapu beaches are protected by a coral reef which makes them unsuitable for swimming at low tide with the best swimming to be found at Ha'amalo, 'Anahulu, Laulea, Vai-ko-Latai, 'Oholei, Fua'amotu, Monotapu, 'Utukehe, Ha'atafu and the Good Samaritan Beach.
In Ha'apai the beaches are starch white from the pounding of the ocean and the clean clear water that blends together with a low population density making the beaches a home and land something to go back to for dinner. The Island group is an exceptionally beautiful string of beaches.
