SMALL INDUSTRIES AND AGRICULTURAL SHOW’S SUCCESS. The King has graced the northern islands Small Industries and Agricultural Show with his presence as well as speeches to motivate his people to keep up their hard work. This is part of His speech at ‘Eua’s Show, which was successfully carried out on Wednesday the 23rd of August year 2000. “I am very happy to open ‘Eua’s Agricultural and Small Industries Show. As have been known by everyone, this show has been a total failure for the past few years, and it has been due to the attempts of the Government to lessen the expenses over certain things. We should try to improve our trade with overseas countries in terms of our crops as well as promoting our shipments and methods of traveling. There is a vision that we are to get another ship like the “Aoniu” for the smaller islands like the Niua’s. This is because it will be much more cheaper than the “Olovaha” who has two machines for processing. Tractors are here from China and they are cheap as well as well fit for ploughing our fields. The ones we used to have are not only too expensive but they are much too powerful for the tasks we have got for them here in our Islands. Not only that but there are plans to purchase machines for road pavements, so that it will be much more easier to reach our crop fields and to motivate people to eagerly work in their plantations.” The honorable Prime Minister as well as the Minister of Agriculture described the situation of Agriculture in ‘Eua. People of the island mainly grow crops for Daily use and Commercial reasons. Less people are doing squash this year, and that is in comparison to the number from last year. There is 30 acres of vanilla but Kava seems to be more popular, in which altogether there is 280 acres of Kava. There are many developing plans like road pavements.
