Permanent and infrequent Visitors

The infrequent visitor is often allowed to stop over without a VISA if ongoing passage is shown. More specific information on Visa requirements are available through the contact details below.

For the visitor who wishes to eventually become permanent there are different courses of action I have heard. One option is to find sponsored work in Tonga, either through the government, volunteer organisations, or through private organisations. During the employment, and while in Tonga, visits to the immigration office, dialogue with officials can often lead to a mutual understanding about the benefits to Tonga for your continuing residence (visa extensions) as well as permanent residence (passport issuance.)

Those visitors with access to influencial members of society can often by-pass, short-circuit the red tape to arrive sooner at the government decision about permanent status. Otherwise, there are no intended obstacles to arbitrarily deny residency to good standing members of the community.

The Tonga Visitors Bureau hosts their own web page at http://www.tongaholiday.com where you can pick up some beautiful pictures of fun in the sun down in Tonga. E-mail communications info@tvb.gov.to for English language and Tongan language communications. They should be able to point you to non-English services.

For those already familiar with the island touch of service, you may have a preference for tour providers of whom many provide materials on the Internet. For non-English speaking visitors it would be better to organise with a touring organisation and to make contact with many of the non-English residents here in Tonga.
