Royal Tongan Airlines

Royal Tongan Airlines flew domestic services, inter-island for the Kingdom of Tonga and International services linking Tonga to international hubs such as Australia, New Zealand, the United States and Fiji.

Further code share agreements, allow passengers of Royal Tongan Airlines to fly on other airlines to the same destinations as well as other isolated destinations closer to Tonga.

We are lead to believe that before its closure, Royal Tongan Airlines used the Air New Zealand CARINA computer reservation/ticketing system. International links not already supported through CARINA are operated through SITA (Society of International Travel Agents.)

In Tonga, Royal Tongan Airline's business centre was on the Ground Floor of the RoyCo Building across from the quaint Church of England property at Fasi-moe-afi. At the centre customers may make and book flight services including the hiring of the inter-island plane for private flights. A little map that includes the above building is available at this link.

International Offices either through representation or with direct staff operated in Australia, New Zealand, Honolulu, and Fiji.

Just prior to its final demise Royal Tongan Airlines expended its resources in upgrading significant resources to promote its services. The new systems included computer systems, service staff training, new facilities overseas and a 'new' aeroplane. Unfortunately a number of factors collided and the major expansion plans ate up what available capital existed and the company failed.
